Cameron House is just one mile from Balloch, beautifully set on the banks of Loch Lomond. Tobias Smollett, the famed poet and writer of the area, who had family associations with Cameron House, once said of Loch Lomond: “I have seen the Lago di Garda, Albana, de Visco, Bolsetta and Geneva. Upon my honour, I prefer Loch Lomond to them all. A preference which is certainly owing to the Verdant Islands that seem to float upon its surface.”
Here are a few suggestions for tours from Cameron House, which is ideally situated for visiting most areas of Scotland.
Not far from Cameron House in the ancient town of Dumbarton sits Dumbarton Castle, where William Wallace, the hero of “Braveheart”, was imprisoned, before his journey to London for execution. The famous “Cutty Sark” sailing ship was built here in the last century.
From the hotel, you are ideally placed to explore the south and west sides of Loch Lomond. Short excursions up the east side of the loch, to Balmaha and Rowardennan, offer excellent views and walks. Balmaha has an excellent ferry service, which will take you onto the loch for a short tour among the islands, including Inchcailloch, ancient resting place of the chiefs of the clan Macgregor.
A few miles from the hotel is the delightful Glengoyne Malt Whisky Distillery. Built early in the 19th century, it is well worth a visit.
Turning north from the hotel, takes you to the conservation village of Luss, with it’s old church and viking grave, dating back to the 14th century. Luss has many times been voted the prettiest village in Scotland and it has been remarked that it closely resembles the village in the film “Brig-a-doon”

Cameron House have 3 luxury, sizeable spaces available; Loch Katrine Suite, Loch Fyne Suite and the most recent addition, the Loch Lomond Suite. If your deciding on a small, intimate wedding or simply eloping, The Library and The Morning Room offer a lovely backdrop for your celebration.
Overlooking the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, the Lomond Suite is the largest of all the suites and accommodates up to 320 guests, making it the epitome of elegance and grandeur. We are loving the photos from the wedding of Kelly and Scott in 2023, planned, designed and delivered by Hannah at Conifer Events; one of our freelance wedding planners at Coleen McKay. Luckily the Scottish weather held and K&S were able to have their ceremony outdoors. At Cameron House, outdoor ceremonies facing onto the loch are super romantic and intimate, especially on a lovely sunny day. Hannah had the pleasure of working with K&S for almost 12 months to plan and design their luxury Scottish destination wedding and she did a fabulous job. Together with Jamie and the wonderful team at Cameron House, the entire wedding day flows seamlessly allowing couples to enjoy their special day and take it all in. We’ve worked in many venues across the UK and Europe, and a great venue team is everything. We can credit Cameron House with having one of the best wedding teams there are!

Or, alternatively, the team at Cameron House can create an online code for guests to book their room(s) directly on the website.
